I unwittingly started this series in 2007 with a photograph of a group of people on the end of a dock. Five years later in LA, I waited patiently for the people on the staircase to arrange themselves just so.

So, starting in March 2012, I began to keep a lookout for natural situations with nine people. Nothing is posed, (almost) everyone is a stranger. Sometimes I wait for people to enter or leave the frame. The results aren't always great, but it's a thing...
